7 Watermelon Recipes: Must-Have Dishes For Chill Summer Day 2022

In spite of its reputation as a fruit, watermelon is actually a vegetable that has its origins in Africa. It belongs to the same family as cucumbers and squash. Watermelon is composed of 92 percent water and 8 percent sugar, making it one of the most hydrating fruits there is. It is also one of the most delicious. Each year, Americans consume more than 17 pounds worth of watermelon. The one that weighed the most, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was 262 pounds.

There are in excess of fifty different types of watermelon. There are also varieties with orange and yellow flesh. The majority, however, have red flesh. There are four broad categories, which are as follows: All Sweet, Ice-Box, Seedless, and Yellow Flesh with the Flesh Being Yellow.

There is a high concentration of the anti-oxidants vitamin C and beta-carotene in watermelons, which helps protect against heart disease, asthma, and cancer. One of the most abundant forms of lycopene can be found in the flesh of red watermelons. It is believed that the antioxidant properties of the red pigment protect against cardiovascular disease as well as cancer.

There is never a bad time to buy a watermelon. Pick out fruit that is solid, symmetrical, and free of cracks, soft spots, bruises, and mold. A ripe watermelon will have a healthy sheen, a dull rind, a dried stem, and a buttery yellow underside where it touched the ground. All of these characteristics indicate that the watermelon is ready to be consumed. There ought to be a scent or fragrance that is comparable to melon. If you absolutely must, give it a thud, but the sound should be muffled and hollow. The weight should be substantial in relation to the size.
